This afternoon’s meeting at Thurles has been abandoned due to frozen ground.

After a morning ground inspection, the decision was made to call off the seven races that were due to be run.

A spokeswoman for the course said: "The meeting has been abandoned because of frost. It was very cold last night and it is still minus one and a half now."

Cross-channel, there are inspections due to take place at Towcester, Market Rasen, Kempton, Sedgefield and Wetherby ahead of St. Stephen’s Day’s busy schedule.

The outlook at the moment is fairly bleak, as many of the courses already have a large build-up of snow covering them, but the situation will be monitored over the next 24 hours or so before decisions will be made.
