At least three people were taken to hospital last night after a collision involving a minibus and a car at about 8pm near the Beehive pub on the N11, about a mile and a half from Wicklow Town.

Five ambulance units and three fire brigade units were called to the scene to treat the injured. It is believed some of the injured were on their way to a Pogues concert in Dublin. None of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

Earlier a teenager died in hospital after a road accident in Longford earlier this month, it was confirmed last night.

Sabrina Higgins (17) was one of two people knocked down by a van on the Carton Road in Keena on December 8. Gardaí confirmed she died in hospital on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, officers from Granard Garda station in Longford are investigating a single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a 36-year-old driver on Wednesday night.

It occurred at 9.30pm at Rhine, Killoe.

The 36-year-old man was alone in the car when it went off the road and hit a tree.

The two deaths bring the number of people who have died on the roads this year to 360.
