Three killed in two separate road crashes

A man and a woman in their twenties were killed in a road accident in Co Laois early this morning.

A man and a woman in their twenties were killed in a road accident in Co Laois early this morning.

They were killed when their car collided with a bus in Aghafin, Mountrath, at 1.10 a.m.

The bus driver and the five passengers on board were not injured but were taken to Portlaoise Hospital for observation.

The deaths bring to three the number of people killed on the roads in the past 24 hours.

In Carlow, a man in his thirties was killed after his motorbike hit a wall at Moanduff, close to Leighlinbridge, at 1.45 p.m.yesterday.

So far, 31 people have died on the roads this year; last year, 380 people died, an increase of 45 on the previous year.
