SRINAGAR - Three people were killed and dozens injured yesterday in parliamentary elections here marked by tight security and a poor turnout except in areas where troops forced reluctant voters to participate.

Parliamentary elections in Kashmir's southern district of Udhampur were also marred by violence yesterday amid complaints that troops had intimidated Kashmiri Muslims into voting. The Kashmir Chief Secretary, Mr Ashok Kumar, said there was more than a 37 per cent turn out in Srinagar, and more than 50 per cent in Udhampur.
