Two young people, one a teenager, have died in crashes in Meath and Limerick at the weekend. In Northern Ireland, an elderly man was killed on Friday night in Derry.

Thomas Doyle (14) from Hennessy Avenue, Kileely, Limerick, died on Saturday evening after being struck by a car when crossing the Condell Road near the Newbridge turn-off in the city.

He was taken to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital where he died a short time later.

Gardaí in Mayorstone are investigating the incident and the driver of the car is assisting them with their inquiries.

A man in his 20s also died when his car collided with a truck in Co Meath on Saturday night. The incident happened at Kilmoone Cross outside Ashbourne shortly after 9pm. Three other people in the car were injured and one of them is in a critical condition in Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

An 82-year-old man named as Samuel Scott from Castledawson, Co Derry was killed in a two-car collision outside Magherafelt shortly after 10pm on Friday.
