A TEENAGE girl has been charged after she was arrested for bringing her two-month-old baby begging in Dublin city centre yesterday morning.

The 17-year-old, who is from Romania, was brought before the Dublin Children’s Court yesterday afternoon after she had been arrested at Johnson’s Court.

The girl was accompanied to her hearing by her sister, while another relative looked after the child outside the courtroom.

Garda Niall O’Reilly told Judge Ann Ryan that the teenager was arrested at 9.50am that day.

She made no reply when she was charged under section 247 of the Children Act for having the infant in her custody for the purpose of begging.

Judge Ryan agreed to set the bail conditions sought by the garda and also asked for a representative of the HSE to attend the case when it resumes next week.

The girl spoke once, via an interpreter, to confirm her signature on her bail bond and was then released. Outside the courtroom a relative gave her back her baby which she wrapped in a tartan blanket.
