The Fine Gael spokesman on education, Mr Enda Kenny TD, has called for an investigation into an exam-cheating case at Limerick Institute of Technology, writes Eibhir Mulqueen.

Teachers Union of Ireland members at the college are to be balloted on industrial action next week, claiming there was a lack of management support after a suspicious exam paper led to the disciplining of a student who is the son of a department head.

A college spokesman said the malpractice had been detected and punished, security precautions had been increased, and the co-operation of staff had been sought to determine if further steps were necessary.

Mr Kenny said he would raise the matter in the Dail.
