Dublin taxi drivers have agreed to negotiate a new fare structure for the capital.

The drivers' representative, Siptu's Mr Jerry Brennan, said that following a meeting with the Commissioner for Taxi Regulation it was agreed that discussions would begin in January.

An industry representative and National Taxi Regulator Mr Ger Deering will begin the process to agree a formula for a completely revised fare calculations.

"We will be seeking to address our members' incomes in a similar manner in which National Wage Agreements are dealt with," added Mr Brennan. "It is also possible that we can reach agreement on a new method of fixing taxi fares nationally."
