Kabul - Afghanistan's ruling Taliban militia said yesterday the International Committee of the Red Cross would be allowed to visit eight foreigners detained for allegedly preaching Christianity.

"Whenever they contact us we will be ready to allow them to visit these people," Taliban Foreign Minister Wakil Ahmed Mutawakel told AFP.

Red Cross officials said a formal offer had already been made to visit the detainees on humanitarian grounds but there had been no response from the Islamic militia.
