There were platforms, sequins and over-the-top bell-bottoms to die for.
"I love Dancing Queen," said broadcaster Mary Kennedy, who was at the opening of the Mamma Mia! musical this week with friends Anita and Michael Carroll, sister Deirdre Ní Chinnéide, daughter Eva Foster, and her daughter's friend, Gráinne Dunne.
Excitement mounted as the guests trooped into the Point to hear all the great Abba hits, including Knowing Me Knowing You, Gimme Gimme Gimme, Thank You for the Music and The Winner Takes It All.
"I'll be the one that's up dancing. I'll be the one they ask to leave the stage," declared Pamela Foley, from Laytown, Co Meath.
She was there with her sister, Niamh, along with their friends, Fiona Keegan and Louise McKeever, who was going to see Mamma Mia! for the third time.
The pianist and administrator of the recent Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition, Dearbhla Collins, and soprano Laura Gilsenan were there too. Waterloo at the end was "brilliant" and Jackie Clune was equally brilliant in the role of Donna Sheridan, said Collins.
Friends Sarah Kenny (11), from Donabate, Lauren Reynolds (12), Jasmine Kimmage, Lisa Galvin (13) and her mother, Rita Galvin, all danced the night away. "I love Abba," said Sarah.
RTÉ producer and broadcaster Aonghus McAnally and his mother, actor Ronnie Masterson, also came along to the opening night. The show is scheduled to run for six weeks.
Mamma Mia! runs at the Point until Sat, Mar 17
