`Take me away from here!" It tends to be around the afternoon of the second day of rain when you despairingly say to yourself: "Give me some sun! Take me to the Med!" Or words to such effect, possibly liberally interspersed with expletives.

Well, what about a week in Majorca (the native Majorca, not the tourist Majorca), chilling out and learning some cookery, and absorbing some sunshine? Geraldine Wilkins, whose Cuisine Express cookery classes are well known to the citizens of Belfast and beyond, has recently been cooking for groups in an old manor house, Can Xenet, in the unspoilt north-eastern region of the island.

Having fallen in love with the house and the experience, Wilkins has seized the bull by the horns and is offering a one-week cookery class in this idyllic setting, between Tuesday, September 15th and Tuesday, September 22nd. Numbers for the class are limited to eight, and partners and friends are welcome. Classes are held in the morning, preparing lunch, with the afternoons free for relaxing. "The focus of the week will be to explore the culinary riches of the Mediterranean, looking at some of the specialities of the Spanish and Mallorcan kitchen but emphasising dishes that can be readily reproduced at home," Wilkins says. "All that is needed is an interest in good food." Prices for the week range from £390 to £470 depending on which accommodation you choose in the house.
