Fiji - Sugar does not make people fat, does not cause diabetes and cannot be held responsible for other ills for which it is popularly blamed, a UN expert told the 1997 Asia Pacific Sugar Conference yesterday. Mr William Clay, of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), said other conditions wrongly blamed on sugar included heart disease, micronutrient deficiencies and hyperactivity in children.
