The engineering student charged with the manslaughter of 11-year-old Midleton schoolboy Robert Holohan has been remanded in custody for two weeks.

Mr Wayne O'Donoghue (20), from Ballyedmond Hill, Midleton, appeared at Midelton District Court this morning and was remanded to appear before the court again on February 3rd.

Mr O'Donoghue was charged on Monday night with the unlawful killing of Robert on January 4th. He was transferred from Cork Prison to the Midlands Prison, Portlaoise, for his own safety.

Mr O'Donoghue first appeared in court on Monday night and was remanded in custody by Judge Michael Pattwell at the special court sitting after his solicitor, Mr Frank Buttimer, said that his client didn't wish to apply for bail at the time but would reserve the right to do so.

A second year engineering student at Cork Institute of Technology, Mr O'Donoghue was arrested for questioning about the death of Robert after he contacted investigating gardaí on Sunday and agreed to be interviewed.
