London - Whistlejacket by George Stubbs, believed to be the greatest English horse portrait, has been bought for the British state for £11 million sterling. The painting, completed in 1762, is being acquired from the estate of Olive Countess Fitzwilliam, herself a noted breeder of Arab horses. More than £8 million of the price has been put forward by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
