Aircraft maintenance assistants at TEAM Aer Lingus last night agreed to defer strike action which was due to begin today, following an appeal from the Labour Court to join management in talks.
The court promised to hold an early hearing of the case if the 80 affected workers agreed to postpone their strike.
The dispute centres on the payment of a weekly worker for productivity bonus of £20, and the use of temporary labour.
A spokesman for the company last night welcomed the decision, saying it was appropriate that the productivity issue was dealt with by the Labour Court.
TEAM had warned that a strike by the workers could affect the recovery of the company, which was involved in a lengthy dispute with SIPTU in 1994. It was feared a number of contracts would be jeopardised if the dispute went ahead.
