Gardai are to send a file to the DPP following the arrest and release of two men questioned about an attack early yesterday on three off-duty gardai, including the former Dublin footballer, Mr John McCarthy.
Mr McCarthy and his colleagues were walking along Phibsboro Road when they were attacked by seven men. Mr McCarthy was punched and kicked and received head injuries. He was taken to the Mater Hospital by ambulance, but was later discharged.
