It's virtually impossible for a healthy, mobile person to understand the magnitude of the disaster which overtook Christopher Reeve when, following a fall from his horse in May 1995, he was confined to a wheelchair, paralysed from the neck down. Reeve had been, not just a screen idol adored by millions for his po-faced performances as Superman, but a keen yachtsman, a qualified pilot and, of course, a competitive show-jumper. Even in a wheelchair and on a respirator, however, he refused to stay still, devoting his "new" life to raising money for research into spinal paralysis, and Still Me is a compelling and undeniably moving - though occasionally, to be honest, somewhat exhausting - account of an indefatigable life.
