Ireland: The US embassy in Dublin will fly its flag at half-mast today, but will not be osting any public event to mark the second anniversary of the September 1th atrocity.

Staff at the embassy will observe a minute's silence at 1.46 p.m., the time the first plane crashed into the World Trade Centre in New York. A spokeswoman said the day would be a time for private reflection, "with the focus on the victims and their families".

Three Irish anti-war groups will mark the anniversary with a press conference in Dublin to discuss the US response to the attacks and what they say are implications for Ireland's neutrality of the continuing "war on terror".

The groups - the Irish Anti War Movement, the NGO Peace Alliance, and the Peace and Neutrality Alliance - said the event was part of an "international month of action" to oppose the occupations of Iraq and Palestine.
