Colombo - Sri Lanka's Deputy Defence Minister, who led the war against Tamil Tiger separatists, resigned yesterday over Sunday's rebel bomb attack on the country's holiest Buddhist shrine. Mr Anuruddha Ratwatte said the bombing, which killed 16 people and wounded at least 23, had caused him personal distress. Authorities have blamed the attack on the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
