The Scottish National Party leader, Mr Alex Salmond, has staked a claim to be the official opposition party in Scotland after the Tories lost all their seats north of the border. He admitted it would be a tussle with the Liberal Democrats but pointed out that although the Lib Dems had more seats, the SNP had won 22 per cent of the votes in Scotland.
