London - Scottish nationalists' hopes of a strong showing in May's elections in Scotland increased yesterday after a poll showed them ahead of the ruling Labour Party for the first time since last August.

Less than four months before elections to the semi-autonomous Scottish parliament, a survey conducted for the Glasgow Herald showed support for the Scottish National Party (SNP) at 38 per cent, against 37 per cent for Labour.
