Three foreign trawler skippers were ordered to sign bonds totalling £174,000 yesterday when they appeared at Clonakilty District Court in west Cork accused of log-book offences off the south-west coast last weekend.

The skippers of the UK-registered Spanish-owned vessels were: Mr Jose Perez Queiraga, of the Spinning Dale; Mr Jose Lamparte Casas, of the Ayr Queen; and Mr Arthur Rhind, of the Sasoeta. They were escorted to Bantry by the LE Ciara on Saturday last. The bond in respect of the Spinning Dale was £54,570; that for the Ayr Queen was £59,590; and the Sasoeta was ordred to lodge £60,220 in court.

The three skippers were released and are due to appear at Cork Circuit Court sittings, beginning on April 22nd.
