A Dublin drugs courier has been jailed for six years for having £300,000 worth of cannabis in the back seat of his car.

A Dublin drugs courier has been jailed for six years for having £300,000 worth of cannabis in the back seat of his car.

Thomas Tighe was caught by gardai after he drove his car through a park in an attempt to escape, Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard yesterday.

Tighe (32), Bunratty Road, Coolock, admitted possessing 30 kg of cannabis with intent to supply at Belcamp Park, Clonshaugh, on March 19th, 1998, and a further charge of aggravated burglary on January 4th, 1986.

Det Garda Phil Collis told prosecuting counsel Ms Una McGurk that Tighe was acting as a courier and was not a high-level drug dealer.

Suspending three years of the sentence, Judge Elizabeth Dunne said it had been 12 years since the aggravated burglary charge and Tighe had made a significant contribution to the local community.
