Mr John Justin Murray (30), of Mullaghacaw Crescent, and Mr James Sweeney (32), of Parklea, both Portstewart, Co Derry, died in a head-on collision on the Portstewart to Coleraine road yesterday. A 21-year-old Newry motorcyclist was killed in an accident with a car at Millvale Road in Bessbrook, Co Armagh.

A pedestrian in her 70s was fatally injured in an accident with an articulated lorry in Mitchelstown, Co Cork. She was pronounced dead on arrival at Cork Regional Hospital.

A man in his 20s from Donegal was killed and a woman was in a critical condition last night after a two-car crash at Crohyboyle, Co Donegal.

Sister Mercedes Somers (75) died in an accident just hours before she was to celebrate her golden jubilee. She was a passenger in a car which was in collision with a lorry at Kilbride Cross on the main Carlow-Wexford road on Thursday.
