Six people are in garda custody following a number of searches in Limerick in the early hours of this morning.

Six people are in garda custody following a number of searches in Limerick in the early hours of this morning.

A pump-action shotgun and a handgun were seized during planned searches at a number of addresses in St Mary's Estate.

Two males, one of whom is in his 30s and the other in his 40s, were arrested and are currently being detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against The State Act at Henry Street Garda station.

Another firearm was recovered in the area after another search was carried as part of this operation and two juvenile males were arrested. They are also being held under the Offences Against the State Act at Henry St Garda station.

Elsewhere and as part of a separate operation and planned searches, approximately four kilos of cocaine were seized at a house at Murroe, Co Limerick.

The estimated street value of this seizure is €400,000, subject to forensic examination.

One man in his 20s was arrested at the scene and is currently detained at Bruff Garda Station under section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act.

A 17-year-old male was arrested at approximately 4am after an attempted arson attack on a property at Moylish Crescent, Ballynanty.

The youth is being detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Henry street Garda station.
