A number of people were being questioned by police in west Belfast early today after shots were heard near Woodburn RUC station.

The arrests were made after reports were received of shots sounding at 10 p.m. last night. An RUC spokesman said nobody was injured and the incident was being investigated.

Meanwhile, a 23-year-old man was recovering in hospital after being shot in the leg in west Belfast. It is believed he was walking across an area of waste ground at Malvern Way in the Shankill area at about 7 p.m. last night when he was approached by two men and shot once in the right thigh.

Police are also investigating a petrol bomb attack against a house at Thistle Court in the Mount Pottinger area of Belfast at 6 p.m. yesterday. The female occupant and her three young children left the house just 10 minutes before the attack.

At least three youths were seen fleeing in the direction of Madrid Street afterwards. Police have not ruled out a sectarian motive.
