Sidon - Israeli jets repeatedly attacked suspected Shia Muslim guerrilla positions in Lebanon yesterday evening after an Israeli soldier was killed and two forts were attacked, Lebanese police said.

The aircraft fired eight air-to-ground missiles on the Iqlim at-Touffah heights south-east of Sidon, where Hizbullah and Amal guerrillas have positions, the police said, without reporting any casualties.

The evening raids came after Amal attacked the Israeli military and its ally, the South Lebanon Army, in the Israeli-occupied buffer zone in south Lebanon.

The SLA said there were no casualties from the assaults, which were aimed at two forts.
