There was an angry stand-off in Co Down earlier today between PSNI officers and Sinn Féin supporters.

The incident took place outside Dromore election centre when Sinn Féin MLA-elect Mr Paul Butler was leaving in a convoy of cars driven by his supporters.

The PSNI are understood to have stopped the convoy on the suspicion that one of the vehicles may have been reported stolen in the Republic a few days before.

This lead to what witnesses described as an "angry" exchange of words. The convoy was later allowed to proceed after the PSNI said it was satisfied the car in question was not stolen.
