A family escaped injury today after their west Belfast home was hit by shotgun
blasts.

A man, woman and their two children were in bed in Hawthorn Street in the lower Falls when two rounds were fired early this morning.

The attackers made off in a dark coloured people carrier which was later found burning at Servia Street, an area regularly used by car thieves to dump stolen vehicles.

The car was taken away for further examination.

Forensic experts are visiting the house today, and officers have carried out house-to-house inquiries.

Detectives investigating the attack do not believe it was sectarian or paramilitary-related.
