Pristina - A senior Serb official in charge of Kosovo said yesterday the Belgrade government was prepared to offer autonomy for the southern Serbian province, and called on ethnic Albanians to rejoin the peace talks as soon as possible.

"We really want the autonomy of Kosovo to re-function again," the state agency, Tanjug, quoted the Serb provincial governor, Mr Veljko Odalovic, as saying. He added that the Serb authorities gave the Kosovo Albanian officials a plan "for a provisional statute" of the province, without elaborating.
