An English forensic scientist has told the jury that semen recovered after attacks on a now 72-year-old Westmeath woman in 1989 and 1991 matched the accused's blood.
Mr Andrew McDonald was giving evidence on day 17 of the trial at the Central Criminal Court of a 56-year-old man who pleaded not guilty to nine charges of rape and indecent assault on the woman on dates from 1983 to 1994.
The trial is being heard by Mr Justice Quirke and a jury.
