Three passenger buses were put on security alert and searched by gardaí in Dublin this afternoon.

Dublin Bus confirmed it was told by the gardaí at 2.30pm of a security alert involving the number 65 bus, which serves Blessington, Co Wicklow.

There were three number 65 buses in service at that time, a spokeswoman for the bus company said.

"We radioed the buses and they were all stopped and the passengers were taken off," she said. Nothing was found on the buses after they were searched by gardaí.

They were all returned to service at about 3.05pm, the Dublin Bus spokeswoman said. "It was dealt with very quickly and efficiently by the gardaí."

A Garda spokesman could not immediately confirm the nature of the security alert.

Further information is expected later.
