A large area of Newry town centre has been sealed off since late last night as part of an ongoing security alert in the city.
A number of streets that had been closed have reopened, including the main Belfast road, but New Street remains closed, according to the PSNI.
Earlier, a PSNI spokesman said members of the army were to examine a suspicious vehicle parked near the courthouse.
The spokesman advised motorists to avoid the area unless the journey is absolutely necessary.
