Security firm Securicor has posted a reward of up to €100,000 for any person who can provide gardaí with information which leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for shooting one of its staff during an armed raid in Kildare on Monday.
In a statement yesterday announcing the reward, Securicor said its employee had been shot in a "particularly callous manner". It said it deplored such incidents and was doing everything it could to assist gardaí in their investigations. The safety of its staff was "of paramount importance" and this was why the reward was being offered.
The Securicor worker was shot in the leg by one of two armed raiders who struck at around 9.30 a.m. on Monday while cash was being delivered to a branch of Ulster Bank in the Co Kildare village of Clane.
Two armed and masked men threatened the security guard with guns and demanded the money he was delivering.
They then pulled him to the ground and shot him in the leg as he pleaded not to be harmed. The driver of the Securicor van remained in the vehicle at the scene during the incident. He was not hurt.
The raiders escaped with around €14,000 in euro and foreign currency. The getaway vehicle, an Alfa Romeo, had been stolen in Donabate last November. Anybody with information on the robbery is asked to contact Naas Garda station on 045 884387 or 045 884389.
