Entries are now being accepted for the ESB Checkmate national school chess competition. They may be submitted by parents, teachers and students for teams comprising five students. A maximum of four teams may enter from each school. Last year's winning team was awarded a trip to Disneyworld Paris.
Anyone interested should submit their entry to Scholastic Chess, P.O. Box 7233, Dublin 5. A starter pack of three chess sets and pieces, along with a beginner's manual and CD-ROM of lessons, is also available for £20.
