Psychiatric patients may be failing to benefit from new treatments due to the absence of a periodic review of their medication, according to Schizophrenia Ireland (SI).

Marking the launch today of national schizophrenia awareness day, SI says over 80 per cent of patients on anti-psychotic medication rely on 40-year-old drugs.

This may be because patients' medication is not subject to regular review, says Ms Orla O'Neill, director of SI.
