An aircraft maintenance engineer, who sued Ryanair claiming part of his right forearm was severed when it was sucked into the jet engine of an aircraft, has settled his High Court action against the company.
Details of the settlement were not disclosed in court but it is understood Mr Keith Chaplan is to receive some €800,000 as a result of the accident in 1999. Ryanair Limited had denied negligence.
Mr Chaplan (32), of St James Villas, Campile, New Ross, Co Wexford, was employed by Ryanair as a maintenance engineer since July 1998.
Mr Chaplan claimed he underwent three operations and suffered continuing pain. He also suffered discomfort in the stump of his right forearm. He will require a prosthesis for the rest of his life.
