RTE won a prestigious award yesterday at a European television festival for religious programmes in Helsinki, Finland, for its Passion for Life broadcast on Good Friday 2000 which focuses on personal suffering in the context of Calvary.

The festival featured 128 entries from 44 broadcasting organisations in 16 countries. The Irish entry was produced and directed by Fr Dermod McCarthy, head of religious programming at RTE and presented by Mick Peelo.
