RTÉ has appointed a new managing director of radio to run both its analogue and its new digital services.

Clare Duignan will replace Adrian Moynes, who has been appointed secretary to the RTÉ Authority and Director of Compliance.

Ms Duignan will take up her post early next year, a statement from RTÉ said.

A native of Dublin, she joined the national broadcaster in 1977 after graduating from UCD in history and politics.

She worked initially with RTÉ radio and progressed through radio and television production and management.

Ms Duignan was appointed director of programmes for RTÉ Television in 2003, with responsibility for all home-produced programmes.

She is a board member of the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival, of Business to Arts, the National Film School Advisory Board, and the Advisory Board of the Irish Film and Television Awards. She has also served on the Arts Council, the Advisory Council of the Abbey Theatre, and the governing body of Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology.
