Andy Roddick won the first Masters Series title of his career when he beat David Nalbandian in a rain-interrupted match in Montreal.

Roddick beat his Argentine opponent 6-1 6-3 in a final which was hit by more than two hours of delays.

The American won the match in less than an hour and climbs to fourth in the world rankings.

The win comes as a boost to Roddick ahead of the US Open which begins in New York's Flushing Meadows on August 25th.

He will be among the favourites there and demonstrated at Wimbledon that he has the ability to be involved well into the second week at grand slam events, having reached the semi-finals at the All-England Club.
