THE High Court was asked yesterday to overturn a decision by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to the establishment of a 40 caravan travellers' halting site in Sandyford.

The application is being made by a number of residents who are opposed to the site being opened at Blackglen Road.

Miss Justice Laffoy was told the decision to go ahead with the halting site was taken without consultation with the public or local representatives. It had caused widespread concern among residents in the area.

The site was unsuitable in terms of water supply, drainage and lack of services, it was submitted.
