A man has been remanded in custody after he was charged in connection with a hit-and-run incident in west Cork on Thursday which left an 83-year-old motorist in a serious condition in hospital.

Graham Dunn (46), of no fixed abode, was charged with nine road traffic offences in relation to the hit-and-run at Abbeystrewry, Skibbereen when he appeared at Bandon District Court yesterday.

Mr Dunn was charged with failing to stop, failing to remain at the scene, failing to report a road traffic accident to gardaí, failing to provide information to gardaí when requested to do so, drink driving, refusing to give a sample of his blood or urine, driving without insurance, driving without a licence and unauthorised use of a van on October 13th.

Insp Brendan Fogarty said gardaí wanted him to be remanded in custody. Further charges could follow. Judge James McNulty granted free legal aid and remanded him in custody to Cork District Court on October 21st.
