The republican splinter group the so-called Real IRA said today it murdered a construction worker in a bomb attack on a British army reserve base in the North earlier this month.

In a phone call to the Derry Journalnewspaper, the dissident group said it was responsible for the "execution" of father-of-four Mr David Caldwell at the camp in Derry.

The 51-year old construction worker and former soldier in the Ulster Defence Regiment died after picking up an explosive device hidden in a lunch box at the camp where refurbishment was taking place.
