London - Great Western Trains was yesterday fined a record £1.5 million at the Old Bailey for jeopardising safety and putting passengers at risk in the Southall rail crash which killed seven people.

Great Western Trains was guilty of a "dereliction of duty" in connection with the disaster in which 150 were injured and millions of pounds of damage caused in September 1997, the court heard.
