Radon gas campaign begins

An information campaign on the hazards of radon gas in the workplace is to be run in the coming weeks, writes Joe Humphreys.

An information campaign on the hazards of radon gas in the workplace is to be run in the coming weeks, writes Joe Humphreys.

Some 1,500 companies in Ennis, Co Clare, are being written to during a pilot phase of the scheme, announced yesterday by the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland.

The institute said employers would be directed to make radon measurements in the workplace within a six-month period, and these readings would be followed up to ensure appropriate measures were put in place to safeguard the health of workers.
