New Delhi - Queen Elizabeth II thanked India yesterday for the sympathy it had shown at the death of Princess Diana and paid tribute to the work of Mother Teresa, who died just days later. In a speech to a state banquet, she also spoke of Amritsar, where today she will visit the site of a 1919 massacre of unarmed Indians by troops of the British Raj, saying that while it was a "distressing" incident, history could not be rewritten.
