A pub which increased its drink charges after a price-freezing order was fined £540 yesterday. The Marble Arch in Dublin, one in a chain of eight pubs owned by Mr Louis Fitzgerald, admitted breaching the Retail Price Order, 2000, on July 14th.

Ms Marion Wright, an inspector from the Director of Consumer Affairs Office, visited the pub in Benbulbin Road and asked to see the till records. She was told they were held at head office and on checking receipts found the price of drinks had been increased by 5p.

Six other pubs were also fined for failing to display price lists. Johnnie Fox's, Glencullen; the Cappagh House, Finglas; and the Cobblestone Bar, North King Street, were each fined £400.
