NATIONALISTS in the Border village of Newtownbutler are likely to agree tonight on a protest against an Orange Order march through the main street on Sunday after talks between both sides ended without agreement.

The Parades Commission revealed yesterday that three members of the Newtownbutler Area Residents Association met Orange Order and Royal Black representatives on Tuesday, but the talks ended in failure over the issue of the number and form of parades in the Co Fermanagh village.

Chaired by the Parades Commission, the meeting was the second between the sides ahead of Sunday evening's march, just hours after the disputed Drumcree parade.

A Parades Commission spokesman said: "While everyone expressed determination to do all possible to avoid a repetition of the incidents of last year, it was not possible to achieve an accommodation on the pattern or form of parades this year which would be acceptable to the loyal orders on one hand and the Newtownbutler Area Residents Association on the other."
