Profit-taking puts brake on Nikkei index rise

Dealers said profit-taking brought shares off their highs for the session after the central bank decided to ease monetary policy.

The dollar was at 133.90 yen in Tokyo trading, down from 134.31 in late New York trading - and at 0.8637 against the euro, compared with 0.8653 in New York.

Government bond yields were flat, with bond No 236 yielding 1.5 per cent, unchanged from yesterday, and bond No 237 yielding 1.53 per cent, also unchanged.

The US 4-7/8 per cent 10-year note was at 100-13/32, yielding 4.825 per cent, up from 100-10/32, yielding 4.83 per cent, in late New York trading.
