Roseville, the former Clonmel home of the double Olympics gold medal winner, Dr Pat O'Callaghan, was yesterday officially opened as an office of the National Training and Development Institute by the President, Mrs McAleese.
At present 45 trainees are undertaking programmes at NTDI Roseville which is funded by the South Eastern Health Board and FÁS.
The centre provides training in basic computer skills, arts and crafts, food and cookery.
The vocational training includes computer applications and office skills and work experience.
Mrs McAleese was yesterday shown round the facility where she saw "anti-racism trees", artistic pieces based on the group's response to their experiences and awareness of racism in Irish society.
The President said she was delighted with the steps that were being taken by the NTDI Roseville towards a truly inclusive society "in which difference is approached not in fear but with a joyful sense of curiosity towards the wonderful gifts that everyone has to offer".
Members of the family of Dr O'Callaghan were present for the occasion.
